. Of Michigan Fraternity Punished For Ski Resort Damage
ANN ARBOR, MI (AP) – The ersity of Michigan is cutting ties with a fraternity for “reprehensible” vandalism at a northern Michigan ski resort during a wild, alcohol-fueled weekend in January.
Sigma Alpha Mu won’t be recognized as a campus organization for four years. In a statement Friday, the university says it’s the most severe sanction. The fraternity’s national office is being asked to revoke the local charter and add more penalties.
Dean of Students Laura Blake Jones says the behavior of Sigma Alpha Mu at Treetops Resort was “reprehensible.” There was more than $100,000 in damage at Treetops and Boyne Highlands on the weekend of Jan. 16.
The university also is restricting the activities of Sigma Delta Tau sorority for two years. Two more fraternities and two more sororities have been reprimanded. | www.MichiNEWS.com | #Michigan #News #MichiNews
